Tunstall Connected Care: Jack’s Story

Jack’s Connected Care Story

Jack is 83 years old and has dementia. He lives alone in a retirement community. He has a habit of wandering about late at night, becoming disoriented and causing disturbance to other residents while searching for his own villa. Jack does fine during the day, but he has left the sink running on several occasions, posing a danger to himself and the property. However, Jack can still live independently and does not want to be moved to a high-care facility where he may not be allowed to do certain tasks he enjoys doing, like cooking or cleaning.

Living with dementia becomes progressively stressful as memories fade and motor abilities weaken. People might get distressed when they are moved out of their homes and into a strange setting. Caregivers can feel under a lot of stress because they feel they may need to be with them 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure their safety. Tunstall helps bridge this gap through our line of Connected Healthcare products and services that can support the needs of individuals living alone or with dementia.

People like Jack may now keep their freedom and stay in their own homes because of Tunstall Healthcare's assistive devices, which help support caregivers in their monitoring and support activities.

How Tunstall Helped Jack

In order help Jack reclaim his safety and independence without intruding on his freedoms, a Tunstall property exit sensor was installed in Jack's villa, which interacts with a base alarm unit to deliver an immediate alert to the onsite caregiver; when Jack wanders out of his house and does not return within a certain amount of time, or leaves the door open, the Tunstall property exit sensor will send real-time notifications to an onsite caregiver. This would enable immediate action to locate Jack and bring him to safety. In addition, bedroom doors, major entrances, and windows may all be installed with a Tunstall property exit sensor, which can be configured to transmit an alert after a certain amount of time has passed.

This solution allows Jack to come and go whenever he wants during the day but promptly alerts the onsite caregiver if he leaves his house between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. This is the perfect solution to avoid potential harm that Jack may encounter whenever he leaves during the night unnoticed.
