What is a Medical Alert Pendant?
A medical alert pendant is a small, wearable device that can be worn around the neck hanging by a lanyard or chain. The device is usually equipped with an SOS button that, when pressed, will immediately send an alert to a monitoring centre. The monitoring centre will then contact the wearer’s emergency contacts or emergency services to provide assistance.
Who can benefit from a Medical Alert Pendant?
Personal Emergency alarms like medical alert pendants can be beneficial for seniors who are at risk of falls or other accidents. They can also be helpful for those with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease, who may need assistance in the event of an emergency.
A medical alert pendant can also provide peace of mind for loved ones who may worry about their elderly relatives living independently.
SENIORS
Our pendants are specifically designed for the elderly, ensuring they have immediate assistance, especially if they're prone to unexpected falls or if they have an existing medical condition.
RETIREMENT VILLAGES

NDIS PROVIDERS AND PARTICIPANTS
Both providers and participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme can benefit from our medical alert pendants, enhancing the safety and well-being of individuals living with disabilities.
CARERS
Carers can have peace of mind knowing that those they look after have a direct lifeline available at all times.
DVA REFERRALS
Veterans and those referred by the Department of Veterans' Affairs can utilise our pendants for enhanced security and quick response during emergencies.
How do Medical Alert Pendants work?
Medical alert pendants usually consist of two parts – the actual pendant and a base station. The base station is typically placed near the individual’s bedside or in another location in the home where it can easily be reached in a medical emergency.
When the SOS button on the pendant is pressed, it will send a signal to the base station which will then place a call to the 24/7 Customer Care Centre. The Customer Care Team will then determine the best course of action, which may include contacting the individual’s emergency contacts or dispatching emergency services.

Frequently Asked Questions about Alert Pendants:
+ Why do I need a personal alarm pendant?
Did you know that one in three Australians and New Zealanders over the age of 65 will experience a fall each year? Falls can cause serious injuries, including broken bones and head injuries, which can often lead to hospitalisation. One way to help prevent falls is through medical alert devices like medical alert pendants or medical alert alarms for seniors. These devices provide peace of mind for both seniors and their loved ones, knowing that help is only a button-press away if an accident occurs.
+ Why not use a mobile phone instead of a medical alert system?
There are a few key reasons why mobile phones aren't an effective safety solution like medical alert systems:
- Mobile phones typically have shorter battery life than medical alert systems, which means that they may not be reliable in an emergency.
- If you're having a heart attack, a seizure, have poor vision or you might be in extreme pain, you may not be able to reach for your phone, especially when under duress. Finding and pressing the emergency button on your wrist or around your neck is relatively easy.
+ How long does the battery in my Tunstall personal alarm last in a power outage?
The Tunstall Lifeline Digital alarm contains a Nickel Metal Hydride back-up battery that recharges itself when plugged into the main power. It is recommended that the battery be replaced after five years. The battery provides up to 40 hours of standby operation. The Tunstall Gem4's battery life is up to 72 hours under normal environmental conditions.
+ Will my medical alert system interfere with my pacemaker?
Will my medical alert system interfere with my pacemaker? There are many different types of pacemakers, so it's hard to give a general answer. Some pacemakers are sensitive to electromagnetic fields and can be interfered by other electronic devices.
For example, the Tunstall Gem4 cannot be worn around the neck if you have a pacemaker while our other medical alarms are cleared to be worn with a pacemaker.
Your best bet is to ask your doctor or the manufacturer of your pacemaker about any specific concerns you have.

+ What happens if the mobile alarm pendant gets wet?
If your personal alarm pendant gets wet, it will still function properly because it has an IP67 rating. This means that the alarm can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes and will still remain water-resistant. So whether you accidentally drop your alarm in the sink or it starts raining while you're out for a run, you can rest assured knowing that your alarm will continue to operate correctly.
